Leonard is a former lecturer at California State University Monterey Bay who taught courses in Taiji (Tai Chi), Chinese Qi Gong, and Chinese Lion Dance with the Department of Kinesiology from 1998-2016. He has studied Taiji in China and taught Taiji, Qi Gong, Martial Arts, and the Cultural Performance Art of Chinese Lion Dance for over 35 years.

He is certified in Qi Gong and Taiji thru the International Healing Tao under Qi Gong Grandmaster Mantak Chia, and is 59th Indoor Disciple of Grandmaster Chen Qingzhou - 19th generation direct descendant, Chen Family Taijiquan. In addition, he is a certified instructor with Dr. Paul Lam’s Taiji for Arthritis Program, and Qingzhou Zungu Taijiquan, USA.

Currently his teaching schedule includes Taiji, Qi Gong classes at Monterey Peninsula College, and the Carmel Foundation. He has previously taught at Chamisal Tennis & Fitness Club, Carmel Valley, Carmel Valley Manor, Merril Gardens Senior Living as well as numerous corporate and private sessions.

Since 1982 his teaching and training in Taiji, Qi Gong and the cultural performance art of Chinese Lion Dance have gone hand-in-hand with his primary vocation as an interdisciplinary visual artist in painting, drawing and printmaking.

Visual Arts, Leonard blends health, mindfulness, and the arts into an accessible and inspiring practice.
